Hedwig M Lukas (nee Merka) went to be with her beloved husband , Peter on 10/12/2020. She was 92 years old.

Mrs Lukas was born on August 21, 1928 in Sarnia, Ontario Canada to Julius and Cecilia Merka (nee O’Borny). She had gone to Catholic school in Montreal and graduated third in the Province of Quebec.

In 1950, Peter Lukas, Sr from Bridgeport, CT  was visiting Montreal and was set up on a date with Hedwig. In June 2. 1951 Peter and Hedwig were married. After getting a honey moon, Mr and Mrs Lukas moved to Branford, CT where she had various jobs while her husband was successful as a systems analyst for SNET telephone company in New Haven, CT.

It wasn’t too long before Hedwig and her husband settled down in Milford, CT. Her husband built their house on property owned by his parents.

On April 11, 1958, Hedwig and Peter Sr became proud parents of a daughter Teresa Margaret. After two miscarriages, Hedwig and Peter Sr became parents a second time. On May 21, 1964, Mrs Lukas and her husband welcomed their second child, named Peter Jr. After the birth of Peter Jr, he had developed some congenital defects that required many trips to the hospital and Hedwig decided to become a stay at home mom in order to care for him. Despite this, both Teresa and Peter Jr grew up to be wonderful children. Their parents were so proud of them.

Hedwig and Peter Sr would enjoy living in Milford until the sudden and untimely death of her husband in 1994.

In 1999, Hedwig and her son moved to Louisville, CO so she could be closer to teresa and her husband and new born grandson. Hedwig enjoyed being the grandmother to Alex abd loved him very much.

Hedwig is survived by her daughter, Teresa Dodge (nee Lukas) of Superior , CO, son Peter Jr of Arvada, CO, a brother Joseph Merka of Kirkland, Quebec, godson James Harkins of Pembroke Pines, FL, her grandson Alex of Superior and Melissa, Emily and Violet Dodge loving step grand daughters.

Hedwig was predeceased by her husband Peter Sr of Milford, CT, her parents Julius and Cecilia Merka from Montreal, a brother William Merka of Ontario, her sister Margaret of Montreal and several other relatives.

In her spare time, Hedwig enjoyed watching soap operas, shopping on QVC, doing puzzles and cooking. But her proudest accomplishment was being a mother to her two children. She loved and cared for them very much.

Hedwig will be missed.
