Living Will, Dementia Directives, CPR Directives and MOST forms The standard Living Will only comes in to play in very limited circumstances, and does not address our stronger likelihood of our biggest fear, living with advanced disability or dementia. Wayne Gilbert, a Denver poet, first encountered Death at Pablo’s Coffee Shop where he often goes to write. Death came directly over to Wayne’s table, sat down and began a conversation. These conversations continued over many months—not every day, but often enough the two became friends. Once, when Death was unavailable, Death sent Sorrow to meet Wayne. Thus, began another unlikely and unexpected relationship. Wayne often wrote poems about these encounters with Death and with Sorrow. The members of Us-In-A-Box Theatre Workshop, Annell Weissenbuehler, Andrea Haus, Brennan Weissenbuehler, and Wayne Gilbert created a script from these poems for a thoughtful, provocative reader’s theatre-style poetry performance piece. Us-In-A-Box hopes to encourage audience members to open their hearts and minds to a deeper understanding and acceptance of death and sorrow as natural aspects of a vital life.
