Lisa Kay Flynn, age 61, died peacefully, surrounded by her family at their home in Longmont, CO. She is survived by her husband, Rich, and her children, Allie and Kevin.
Lisa was born on August 19th, 1960 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She grew to become an incredible respiratory therapist and asthma educator, advocate for the environment, loving friend, caring mother, and devoted wife. Her nurturing demeanor, positive outlook, and enthusiasm for life was contagious, and the glue that held her family together.
Her respiratory therapy career began in Indianapolis, at Riley Children’s Hospital, where she worked in neonatal ICU. Being the social butterfly that she is, she made many friends along the way. Her career reached its peak at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, where she advocated for children by educating parents on asthma. She ‘semi’ retired in 2014 from St. Vincent Pulmonary Rehab with hopes to continue educating in Colorado.
After the big move, Lisa became certified as a Health Coach, and then began taking classes to finish up the hours needed for her B.S. degree, but the cancer diagnosis shifted her focus. While she wasn’t able to continue working in the hospital, she increased her volunteer hours and again, made many friends. We praise her for the time she gave to help others and the environment.
Lisa’s love for Rich and her children was immense. You wouldn’t think many couples that met in the bathroom of a Greyhound bus would fall madly in love and stay together for over 40 years, but they did. Like any marriage, theirs was not without faults, but Lisa and Rich pushed forward and always made it work. They were even able to convince Allie and Kevin to move to Colorado with them (though, that wasn’t too hard) in 2016. Rich was Lisa’s primary caregiver during her battle against ovarian cancer for four long, hard-fought years, and stuck by her side the entire time. Their love for each other, as well as the love from Allie and Kevin and all of Lisa’s friends, kept Lisa going and helped her beat the odds.
It is safe to say that Lisa is one popular gal. She has received an outpouring of support from her various hobby and volunteer networks, and we want to thank those who have supported her from the Pit Brothers Crew, Circle City Sirens Hockey Team, Audubon Court Family, Blatchley Nature Study Club, Nikki’s Circle Team, her Teal Sisters, Girl Scout Troop 581, Noblesville Lacrosse Team, Boulder County Beekeepers Association, Boulder County Rangers District, Sandstone Ranch Volunteer Network, the River Family, Asthma Camp, and so many more.
Lisa’s transition was extremely difficult on our family. We extend our deepest gratitude to the team at TRU Community Care for helping to make the transition as comfortable as possible. We would especially like to thank Justin, Libby, Beejay, Lhakpa, Roberta, Dr. Shuler, Wendy, Laurie, Scott, Tsering, Chandra, Victoria, and Tiffany for their kindness and compassion. The volunteers were also wonderful – so kind, gentle, and helpful.
Lisa was a ray of sunshine on a dark, cloudy day. She brought love and light to any room she entered. She stood up for the things she believed in, saved the lives of strangers, and fought intensely for her life. She was someone that everyone wanted to know, and she loved knowing everyone. We cannot be more thankful for the support we’ve received from Lisa’s extensive network of friends and family. She was incredibly loved, and it shows through and through. Thank you for loving her and lifting her up with grace.
