Vickie S. DiRito

On Tuesday, November 22, 2022, Vickie S. DiRito, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home in Longmont, CO surrounded by her family. She was seventy-two years old.

Born in Canon City, CO on April 22,1950 to Micky and Guy Trumpower, Vickie was an avid lover of art, beauty, and nature throughout her life. Upon graduating high school, she obtained a cosmetology license and was a Hair Stylist for nearly thirty years. She loved to paint acrylic still life paintings, delve in craft projects, and hone her green thumb – she had a true gift for getting blooming plants to flower where others would fail. Vickie met the love of her life, David in their teens and they were married for fifty-two years.  Over the years of their marriage, Vickie led the way in teaching David how to relax and enjoy life more. You could tell that she was becoming frustrated with him when you would see her doing her famous eye-rolls and head bobbles. There were a few things that Vickie didn’t have to teach David and they were fortunate enough to spend many years enjoying them together. These were joy, laughter, a sense of humor, and a deep love of music. When asked what mattered most to her, Vickie didn’t even pause to think before answering: her husband, children, and extended family. She dedicated her life to cultivating a loving and supportive home for all of us.

Vickie was best known for her sense of style, her quick-wit, her infectious laughter, and her no-nonsense approach. She is survived by her husband, David DiRito, their three children James DiRito, Melissa DiRito-Knupfer, and Dara DiRito-Cullen, sons-in-law James Chan, Franz Knupfer, and Matt Cullen, and their two grandchildren, Olive Cullen and Leo Knupfer.

Vickie is also survived by her mother-in-law, Vita DiRito, and sisters-in-law, Pamela (Jack) Laughlin and Vivian (Ken) Jeffcoat.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 28th, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Firehouse Art Center, 667 4th Ave., Longmont, CO 90501.   For questions or general information about the memorial service or celebration of life, please contact Dara DiRito-Cullen at (720) 232-6132.

We are forever grateful for the amazing care that Vickie received from both the palliative care team and hospice team at TRU Community Care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to TRU Community Care at www.trucare.org/donate or by mail at 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, CO 80026.

  1. Vickie was joy. Always accepting and welcoming friends into their home and making them feel they belong. I will always remember her laugh and how much she loves her family. Beautiful families aren’t created out of luck, their built on devotion and true love that she and David shared. Anyone who knows that family knows the love between them all is fiercely strong. Thinking about, and loving you all.
