Susan Carol Dorris died at the age of 83, on July 19, 2024. She was born in New York, raised in St. Louis, MO, and made her home in Breckenridge, CO, in 1969. Moving between MO and CO, she raised three children. She is survived by her brother George Dorris and his wife Suzanne Dorris, brother Andy Dorris, son Nathan Harris and his wife Alexis Rebane, her daughter Juliette Harris, and her grandson Trenton Walker. Susan was predeceased by Juliette’s twin brother, Benjamin Harris (1982-1997). Both rest peacefully in Valley Brook Cemetery.
Her jobs and hobbies intertwined. She was a voracious reader (owned and operated Head West Bookstore), an avid horseback rider (bred Thoroughbreds), an intrepid traveler and loquacious storyteller (drove the Keystone bus), a green-thumbed gardener, a talented painter/seamstress/artist, and a doting cat mom.
Susan’s friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate her life on Tuesday, August 6th, at 1 p.m. at Fatty’s Pizzeria. To honor Susan’s love of orchids and lilies, we invite you to wear bright colors or flower prints. Donations may be made to an animal welfare nonprofit of your choice or offered to the family for memorial expenses. Thank you to the wonderful people at Namaste Hospice and The Natural Funeral, and appreciation to Emily Miller of Colorado Burial Preserve and Celebrant Benjamin Martin.
