Sara M’ira
1953 to 2024
Sara M’ira (previously known as Susan Williams and Susan Weiner), 70, of Longmont, Colorado, passed away at her home. She is survived by her loving twin sons, Aaron Weiner and Elijah Weiner, her sister, Joanie Bristol, and her cousin Marie Earnhart.
Sara was born in 1953 in La Jolla, California, to Ethel “China” (Smith) Williams and Robert Scott Williams. She fell in love with the dramatic arts while attending Helix High School in La Mesa, California, performing in many plays, but was especially impacted by the “Diary of Anne Frank.” She always wore a Star of David necklace after that experience.
Sara received her B.A. from United States International University in San Diego, California. After later returning to school to earn her paralegal certificate, she drove the Alcan Highway to Alaska alone and found a job with a prestigious law firm in Anchorage. She would later attend and graduate from Northeastern Law School, during which time she clerked for two Alaska Supreme Court judges, and then returned to her beloved Anchorage to open a private practice, represent the ACLU, and staff the Disability Law Center of Alaska. She was a dynamite oral arguer in court, sharp and funny, and quick-witted and stylish outside of court.
Sara met her ex-husband, Randy, in Anchorage and moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1993 after their marriage. Their two sons, Aaron and Elijah, the apples of her eye and her reason for being, were born in 1999.
In Colorado, Sara worked in a private Denver law practice and assisted in a successful lawsuit to clean up arsenic contamination from the ASARCO “Globeville” smelter in northeast Denver.
In Boulder, Sara was a member of Temple Har Hashem, where she became a Jew by choice.
A memorial service will be held at Temple Har Hashemin Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday, June 23, 2024. It is open to all friends and family who knew her.
