Portrait of Lorraine Carrol Eyl

In Loving Memory

Lorraine Carrol Eyl

August 6, 1940 – October 1, 2026

Lorraine Guglietta Eyl died at MorningStar Senior Living in Longmont, Colorado, on October 1, 2026.

Born in Hartford CT, on August 6, 1940, Lorraine was the youngest of five children and spent her early years in Bloomfield CT, where her parents owned a cheesemaking business that produced the best mozzarella and ricotta you’ve ever tasted.

When Lorraine was a preteen, her parents retired and moved to Hollywood FL, where she grew to early adulthood. After high school, she attended Florida State University, where she met Bill Eyl. Lorraine and Bill were married in Hollywood, Florida, on November 24, 1962, and had their first child, Jennifer, in 1967.

Lorraine, Bill, and Jennifer moved from Florida to Colorado in 1969, settling first in Boulder and later on five acres west of Berthoud (with a motley assortment of animals), where she spent most of her adult life. Her second child, Eryc, was born in 1971.

Throughout her life, Lorraine was a committed educator. She received her Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Miami in 1963, and taught business and office skills to high school students through the first half of her career. In 1984, Lorraine earned a Master’s degree in education from Colorado State University in 1984 and became a high school guidance counselor, a role she enjoyed until her retirement in 2000.

After both retired, Lorraine and Bill traveled extensively with their dog, and she maintained a creative and social life through a quilting group that became her strongest and most loyal support network for all the years to come.

In June 2015, the house the Eyls had called home since 1972 was destroyed by a tornado while the couple, both in their 70s at the time, and their dog, Duffy, were home. The couple and Duffy managed to escape unharmed and, within a year, they moved into a new home on the same beloved piece of earth. Bill passed away in 2022, but Lorraine remained on that property until she sold it in 2024 to move to Old Town Longmont, near her son Eryc and daughter-in-law Mare Trevathan.

Always known as a robust and unstoppable force, Lorraine started to experience some decline in her physical and mental capacity after Bill’s death. In July 2025, Lorraine made the decision to move into assisted living at Balfour Longmont (now MorningStar Senior Living) with her dog, Duffy. She made friends and participated in many activities, but was also beset with multiple health challenges that slowed her down. While recovering from spinal surgery in May 2026, she received a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, and in August 2026, she moved from assisted living to the memory care unit at MorningStar. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to take advantage of all the benefits offered by the facility and rapidly declined.

Lorraine took great pride in her children, Jennifer (San Diego CA) and Eryc (Longmont CO), her daughters-in-law, Maggie Martin-Eyl and Mare Trevathan, her dog Duffy, and her grandchildren, Sophia Eyl and Joseph Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, parents Filomena and John Guglietta, and siblings Johnny Guglietta, Francis Guglietta, Virginia (Guglietta) Northrup, and Florence (Guglietta) Carucci.

Lorraine’s family knows that she touched many lives, and encourages those who wish to honor her to donate in her name to Tru Community Care (https://www.trucare.org/make-a-donation-to-tru/) or the Longmont Humane Society (https://www.longmonthumane.org/donate/). A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
