Kevin Bernard Adams

December 13, 1977 – July 22, 2026

Kevin Bernard Adams, a deeply loved husband, father, son, educator, and musician, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the age of 48. Kevin brought an unmatched warmth, curiosity, and vibrant energy to everyone who knew him, leaving behind a legacy rooted in family, community, and lifelong learning.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 13, 1977, to Janet Cannon Adams and Eula L. Adams, Kevin developed a deep passion for history, geography, and music early in life. While in high school, he attended a prestigious six-week program at the Berklee College of Music. Though he ultimately chose to keep music as a cherished hobby rather than a career, his guitar and his love for a great melody remained central to his soul. Kevin is a 1996 graduate of Highlands Ranch High School. He earned a BA degree from Metropolitan State College of Denver and a Master of Education from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.

Kevin’s professional life was defined by his extraordinary impact as an educator. He began his career teaching History and Geography at Morey Middle School before moving to the Denver Center for International Studies (DCIS). He was a beloved figure in the classroom, recognized for his ability to inspire students and advocate for his fellow educators. Throughout Kevin’s teaching career he received several awards and recognitions. His most treasured ones were in 2007 being named a Mile High Teacher and in March 2022, he was named a Denver Nuggets Most Valuable Teacher. His passion for education and teachers’ rights led him to co-create the “Two Dope Teachers” podcast, which grew from a local collaboration into a nationally followed platform.

Recognizing that he could expand his positive impact, Kevin transitioned into school administration as an Assistant Principal. Following the closure of DCIS in 2025, he joined the administration at the Denver School of the Arts. In a short time, his dedication, integrity, and genuine care earned him the profound respect and affection of the entire student body and staff.

Beyond the halls of education, Kevin lived life at full volume. He was an avid traveler and a dedicated music enthusiast. He spent decades following his favorite bands, the Grateful Dead and Phish, across the country and around the globe. Alongside his close crew of friends, he proudly embraced the “Phish head” culture and unique concert attire. Kevin channeled this musical devotion locally by co-founding “Bicycle Day,” a Denver-based rock group heavily inspired by the Dead and Phish. The band loved nothing more than jamming at local clubs or playing live in Kevin’s backyard during his legendary, festive Juneteenth celebrations, where his skills at the barbecue grill were matched only by his love for a good party.

Kevin’s thirst for exploration began at age 18, when he and his father embarked on their first international trip to London and Amsterdam. Over the years, the duo traveled to Cuba, Ghana, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Just recently, Kevin, his father, and his son Tacari returned from a memorable trip to Austria, where they shared their love of motorsport at the Formula 1 race in Spielberg. Kevin also cherished beautiful family vacations closer to home, exploring Hawaii and Mexico alongside his parents, wife, and children.

At the center of Kevin’s world was his beautiful family. He met the love of his life, Birdalone Emmons Adams, while in college through her brother Sabian, who was Kevin’s best friend. Together, Kevin, Bird, and their two children, Sophia Ilori Adams and Tacari Sabian Adams, built a home filled with laughter, intellectual curiosity, and deep love.

They formed an inseparable bond, constantly engaging in lively debates about global events, the environment, and their favorite sports teams, the Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets.

Kevin’s sudden departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of his devoted wife, Birdalone; his proud children, Sophia and Tacari; his loving parents, Janet and Eula; his Father-In-Law, Tom Emmons; Grandmother-In-Law, Majorie Emmons; and a large, loving network of aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues, students, and lifelong friends. He lived vibrantly, taught passionately, loved fiercely, and will be missed beyond measure.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 6 – 8 PM at New Hope Baptist Church, 3701 Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80205.
