Kenneth Wayne Huber 5/12/1961- 9/23/2026

Our community lost one of its most positive, grateful, adventurous and loving members. Ken Huber was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and husband, and a devoted dog, cat and horse dad. He was a good friend to have and a friend to many. Everyone he met felt the love and adventure he embraced. Ken had a deep appreciation for the simple things that made his life rich.

Born in Redondo Beach, Ken was the ultimate California beach kid. His childhood was filled with surfing, fishing, sunsets, skateboarding, dirt biking, tearing around in his Baja Bug, skiing, camping and hiking. He even delivered newspapers on a horse, riding bareback. Above all, Ken treasured time with his family, especially days at the beach and traveling together.

At age 20, Ken moved to Colorado with his friend Doug and began his career as a builder. He became an accomplished skier and embraced the outdoor life in every season — camping, kayaking, rafting, hunting and walking beaches and mountain trails with his Labs, sunsets, packing horses into the wilderness, traveling, and fishing local rivers and commercially in Alaska. He loved riding motorcycles and mountain bikes with his closest friends and was an avid music lover who attended countless concerts and festivals. His interests and adventures were as boundless as his enthusiasm for life.

Ken met the love of his life, Dagmar, in Vail. Both had already built lives filled with adventure and a love of the outdoors, and together they found even more joy in the things they loved. For more than 34 years they shared countless adventures while wholeheartedly supporting each other's individual passions. Their lives were rich with love for family, friends and the many animals they adored. After years of hard work, they fulfilled a shared dream of building their own home, largely with their own hands and the help of dear friends.

When Ken was diagnosed with cancer, Dagmar devoted herself to his care throughout the 5.5 years he lived with the disease. With extraordinary love and determination, she supported his well-being through thoughtful nutrition, holistic approaches and a deep belief in the connection between mind body and spirit, which Ken fully embraced. Together on the cancer journey Kenny thrived for many years. A true expression of the love and partnership that defined their life together. Ken also deepened his connections with family, friends and nature and found an even greater appreciation for life.

While Ken’s diagnosis was devastating, the journey also brought unexpected blessings. Throughout those years, Ken lived with strength, courage, dignity, love and determination, choosing positivity and gratitude even in the face of enormous challenges. He was deeply thankful for the loving care of Dagmar and his family, the compassionate team at Shaw Cancer Center and Vail Health, Dr Sheila Beades, and the Eagle River Valley community he considered an extended family, and many others. Ken’s presence will be deeply missed.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, Jim. He lives on in the hearts of his mother, Gloria, sisters Wendy and Pam, nephew Garrett, niece Maggie, his beloved wife Dagmar, and countless extended family members and friends. Friends of Ken and Dagmar have established a benefit account to help ease the financial burdens following Ken's illness and passing, and to honor Kenny’s memory. Contributions of any amount are deeply appreciated and can be made to the Dagmar Huber Benefit Account at any Alpine Bank branch.

Friends are invited to raise a glass and share memories of Kenny at Vendetta's on November 5th, 4-7PM, 2026. There will be a celebration of life mid-May 2027.
