Janyce Sura

Jan Sura of Longmont Colorado passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by close family on September 22nd.

Jan is survived by her loving husband Tom, sons Matthew and Jed, Matthew’s wife Kelley, their two children Eli and Noe, and Jed’s wife Renee and their two children Iris and Miles.

She is predeceased by her parents Dr. John and Rachel Schwabland, sister Joan, and brother John.

Jan grew up in Blissfield and Ann Arbor Michigan. She attended University of Michigan and Western Michigan University. She was a teacher in Lake Orion Michigan where she met Tom. Together they taught in Lake Orion. Saudi Arabia, and Tecumseh Michigan. In Tecumseh they enjoyed theater and together were involved in a French exchange program and a Youth Theatre program where Jan was a costumer for many years.

Jan enjoyed family travel, playing piano, and fl ute, and being in a conch sunset band in Maui. She also enjoyed acting, sewing, quilting, singing in choirs, cooking and time with close friends. She was always open to new possibilities. Jan and Tom retired from teaching and moved to Colorado in 2000. They continued to have travel adventures together, and always enjoyed sandy beaches in Michigan, Florida, Oregon, and Maui. Making family movies with the grandkids was always one of her favorite pleasures each summer.

Jan will always be remembered for her love of family, adventurous spirit, her sense of humor, talent, poise, and imagination. She leaves us all with love, and smiles as we think of her.
