The Celebration of Life Service will be from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Community sharing of their memories of Ben will follow until 2:30 pm. The event will close with a reception from 2:30-3:00 pm. (All times approximate.)

Obituary

Benjamin Allan Getchell (Ben), Oct. 1, 1998 – April 22, 2019, Boulder, CO.

Beloved son of Robert and Katerina Getchell, Benjamin was born in Sarasota, FL.

Benjamin was preceded by his grandparents Robert Getchell, Sr. and Jane Petty Getchell,James and Betsy Ann Russell, uncle David Getchell, aunt Sally Gordon and his beloved kitten, Mittens.

He is survived by his parents, Robert and Katerina Getchell, uncle Steve Gordon, uncle Jeff Getchell and his wife Denise, aunt Christina Russell McDonald, uncle Clark Russell, uncle Scott Russell as well as cousins Katie Gordon, Greg Getchell, Kristin Evey,Michael Russell, Grace McDonald, Emma McDonald and Eliot McDonald.

Benjamin attended Shining Mountain Waldorf School from preschool through senior graduation in the Class of 2017. Most recently he was a sophomore at University of Denver in the class of 2021, majoring in Philosophy and minoring in Entrepreneurship and Computer Science.

He was previously employed at the University of Denver’s iD Tech Summer Camp Program 2018 and at the University of Denver Innovation Lab of the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science.

Benjamin loved his pets, playing the violin, piano, ice skating, archery, riding his mountain bike, hiking the Boulder foothills and building things. He was a gifted artist, musician and writer. He enjoyed playing online games as well as board games. Ben had one of the gentlest spirits anyone could ever know. He was also a fiercely private person about his internal world.

Throughout all his years at Shining Mountain Waldorf School his classmates described him as “kind, caring, and a good friend.”
