Mark Paul Smith age 62, was born in Colorado and passed away in Wheatridge, Colorado on June 26, 2023. He is the beloved father of Paul Smith and a beloved co-worker and friend of many and the funniest guy most of us will every meet. He will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Mark’s life will take place this coming Tuesday, July 18th, 2023 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Comedy Works at the Landmark, 5345 Landmark Place in Greenwood Village, CO 80111.
More than a year after his death, I am just now learning of Mark’s passing and it saddens me. He and I worked together at KIMN/KYGO in the late 1980s, but more than that – we did a lot of photography together and became friends. He had gotten some camera gear from, I believe, his grandfather, and that included a large format view camera. We both shot 35mm and I also shot medium format. We did many photo outings to the mountains and to the plains, and we then took those photos into my home darkroom for enlargements, etc. Through it all, we enjoyed the art form, laughed a lot, and simply enjoyed being together getting better at something we loved – photography. After Jefferson-Pilot Communications pulled the plug on KIMN (AM-95), the company returned me and my family to Charlotte, NC and in time, Mark and I lost touch. Even though we lost touch, I will always cherish those times we enjoyed looking through our viewfinders at some of the most beautiful scenery to be found on earth. Mark was a fine engineer and a really good guy. I am grateful that his path and mine crossed at 1095 South Monaco Parkway more than 40 years ago.
