GREW UP IN VAN NUYS, CALIFORNIA

SERVED IN THE ARMY AS A WARRANT OFFICER IN VIET NAM FOR 8 YEARS

HE WAS A LOACH SCOUT PILOT, WHICH WAS A LOW-FLYING HELICOPTER LOOKING FOR THE ENEMY. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS MISSON EACH DAY HE SERVED.

WHILE SERVING IN THE ARMY HE WAS AWARDED THE BRONZE STAR FOR MISSIONS THAT SAVED FELLOW SERVICEMEN.

WHILE STATIONED IN HAWAII HE MET HIS FIRST WIFE DIANA MERIWETHER AND MARRIED HER IN HAWAII.

MOVED TO NORTH CAROLINA WHERE THEY HAD THEIR FIRST CHILD GORDON JOHN BEATTY lll AND 2 YEARS LATER HAD THEIR DAUGHTER LISA DANIELLE BEATTY.

MOVED TO COLORADO AND FLEW HELICOPTERS FOR PTARMIGAN DOING WILDLIFE SURVEYS.

HIS NEXT POSITION WAS WITH THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY OF COLORADO FLYING LONG RANGER HELICOPTERS TRANSPORTING EMPLOYEES TO VARIOUS LOCATIONS.  SEVERAL YEARS LATER HE WAS REASSIGNED TO FLYING LEAR JETS WHEN THEY ELIMINATED THE HELICOPTER PROGRAM.

AFTER HIS MARRIAGE TO DIANA OF 12 YEARS, HE MET BRENDA BARCUS WHOM HE MARRIED IN 1988, AND SPENT THE LAST 34 YEARS TOGETHER.  THEY HAD NO CHILDREN TOGETHER BUT MANY ANIMALS ALONG THE WAY.

GORDON AND BRENDA LOVED TO TRAVEL AND TOOK MANY MEMORABLE TRIPS AMONG SOME ARE HAWAII, FLORIDA, BELIZE, MEXICO, ALASKA, AND GALAPAGOS ISLANDS.  FUN FACT…. WHILE IN ALASKA THEY TOOK A SMALL PLANE INTO A SALT MARSH ENCOUNTERING SEVERAL GRIZZLY BEARS!  BRENDA LOVED ANIMALS AND GORDON WENT ALONG FOR THE ADVENTURE.

AFTER HE RETIRED, HE SPENT A LOT OF TIME WORKING ON COMPUTERS, AND COOKING AND WAS FASCINATED BY NEW TECHNOLOGY. HE WAS RELENTLESS IN THE PURSUIT OF THE PERFECT CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE!  HE LOVED TO ENTERTAIN AND WOULD MAKE CERTAIN THAT ALL HAD PLENTY OF DRINKS, FOOD, AND DESSERT.  HE WAS GENEROUS AND LOVING AND GIFTED IN SO MANY WAYS AND HE COULD FIX ANYTHING…ANYTHING!

GORDON WAS FUN-LOVING, KIND GENEROUS, AND INCREDIBLY LOYAL. HE LOVED HIS ANIMALS AND THEY LOVED HIM.

  1. Gordon was intelligent, optimistic, energetic, and had a great sense of humor. During the years we worked together I never once saw him in a bad mood.
Thankful for the opportunity to have shared cockpits and beers.

  2. My truly memorable road trips with Gordon during the time we worked together. Tipped countless beers over the years and had a great time.
A true friend – I will miss him greatly.

  3. Oh the the times–trying to teach me to fly the Bell 47 Soloy : when he landed
the Bell 206 at my place in Deer Creek Canyon : when we were at Boulder
airport I and gave Lisa and Gordon III separate rides in a Bellanca 8KCAB,
only one passenger at a time.

    Enough said here !!!
Though I am sure the statute of limitations is long since past.

  4. gordon was my best friend. He could always be counted on to be on time, and to be anyplace he said he would be.. He did many things for me, almost without thinking. For our recent anniversary, he bought me a large metal bear to put on the wall, a man after my own heart. I, and our dogs, horribly miss him. Life will never be the same without him.

  5. Gordon was a great man. There are many wonderful things to say about him, but I wanted to share something in particular that I especially admired about him: he was a salt-of-the-earth man. He was genuinely a good man among men and the kind of human being that I continually strive to become. The memory of him and the example he set will always inspire me. I want to celebrate him and his incredible life. Cool guy. We will see Gordon again!

  6. Gordon was a joy to know; he always made a point to learn everything he could about systems and aircrafts and computers. I admire his patriotism having served in the U S Army and in VIET NAM for 8 years. I never heard Gordon complain; he just made things work. His quiet demeanor covered a very caring soul. I was blessed to have known Gordon; to observe the excellent example he set; to have benefited from his knowledge of systems; and his ability to work well with so many people. Gordon is missed and my prayers go with him and his family.
