FINNIUS FAY INGALLS of Boulder, Colorado
Beloved husband, father, son, sibling and friend Finnius Fay Ingalls left us September 14, 2022, at the age of 53 and after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Finn touched all who knew him with his thoughtfulness, gentle and dependable ways, solid humor, and his creative and practical knowhow.
Finn attended boarding school at South Kent School and college at the University of Colorado – Boulder, graduating with a degree in Environmental Design. He later attained a Masters of Architecture from University of Colorado – Denver. In 2004, Finnius was welcomed as a member of the American Institute of Architecture. Throughout these academic years, he developed countless lifelong and enduring friendships that continue to this day.
Finn opened his own architecture firm, Orbit Design, in Boulder, Colorado, where he spent over a decade as an active architect. Later, he created Idle Acre Land Co, developing his vision for land stewardship and restoration. Whether he was running a tractor, stacking hay, chipping wood, maintaining ditches and equipment, irrigating and mowing the fields, Finn found deep satisfaction in tending the land.
Family was Finn’s greatest love and the fulfillment of his life dream. Destiny led him to Verita and her two young girls at the dog park. The instant kinship was apparent to all, including their dogs, Motor and Ada. The births of Tobin and Sophia made the family complete.
Throughout his life, Finn loved exploring the great outdoors by land, sky and water. Following family tradition, Finn became an avid pilot, flying from the Alaskan tundra to the Islands of the Bahamas. He first explored the rugged outback of the Canadian wilderness by canoe, and for years enjoyed dirt biking across Colorado and Utah with buddies, telemark skiing, and camping — often with his Westy, and always had a guitar in hand and a beloved black lab at his side. Finn had his feet firmly planted on the earth and his eye on the sky—watching a passing plane or a soaring hawk.
Finn is survived by loving wife Verita Perry, daughters Melody Carden, Eloise Carden, Sophia Ingalls and son Tobin Ingalls; mother Cynthia R. Ingalls; sisters Rebekah Ingalls, Louise Ingalls, Lang Ingalls and Nina Ingalls; and brothers David Ingalls and Redmond Ingalls.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hotel Boulderado on his birth date, November 12, 2022.
~ Finnius Fay Ingalls, you will forever be in our hearts ~
So sorry. Best wishes to all.
Hello Verita:
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Phineas sounded like a wonderful man. And of course, why not. He was in Ingalls. I was looking something up on the Internet when I came across his recent obituary. He was also a very handsome man and you were a very lovely lady. I’m sorry I never got to know him. May God bless you and keep your family.
With heartfelt sympathy and the upmost sincerity, I remain
