Dorothy Ann Cox Stewart

Dorothy Ann Cox Stewart died peacefully surrounded by her family on January 17, 2020 in Boulder, Colorado, where she had lived near two of her daughters for the past ten years. 

Dorothy was born on June 13, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Mae M. Cox and Gilbert Thomas Cox.  She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Maureen Cox.  She is also survived by her children, Karen Deakins (John), Barbara Stewart-Brown (Bruce), Ann Stewart Zachwieja (Patrick), Tom Stewart (Carlos) and her grandchildren, John Deakins (Carolina), Zachary Deakins, Ben Stewart-Brown (Emily), Lauren Stewart-Brown, Peter Zachwieja, and Mei Zachwieja. 

Dorothy received her B.S. from Cornell College where she met her husband, Tom Stewart, her Master’s degree from Columbia University, and her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Iowa.  After her graduate work, Dorothy led a diverse career in counseling in the US and Canada. 

Dorothy was active in her community through her church and volunteer work.  She retired to Victoria, B.C. before moving to Boulder to be closer to family.  Dorothy will be missed by her family and her many friends.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bristol Foundation, in support of the excellent hospice support Dorothy and her family received from Suncrest Hospice. https://bristolfoundation.org/support/
