David Edward Potts

This is a note to each of you that knew David. He passed in his sleep early morning hours of Thursday, March 20, 2025: “The finest hour that I have seen is the one that comes between the edge of night and the break of day; it’s when the darkness rolls away” – Kate Wolf, “Across the Great Divide”.

David’s service will be graveside, Monday, March 24, 2025 at the Lyon’s Cemetery, Lyons, Colorado, a small Western town near Estes Park. It’s beautiful there; the deer roam through and all is peaceful. We will burn sage as Elton John’s “Abide With Me”, one of David’s favorite hymns, is playing. The service will be about love and loving one another. For closing, “Abide With Me” will be played by a trumpet player.

Kimberly and Mark and our grandsons, Eric and Ryan, will be in attendance. Also attending will be Chollie and Diana Moore, my brother and his wife; Bill and Marj Savage, Mark’s parents; as well as friends that we have met and that also cared for David while we’ve lived here in Colorado. To all of you that wanted to come but couldn’t, we will feel your energy. Our daughter, Lynley, Kimberly’s older sister, who passed in 1990, will be there in spirit, as will our families and relatives and friends that have passed.

David was 86 years old. His birthday was April 3, 1938. I love and miss him so much. Thank you for being a loving part of our lives. “We are all related” – Mitakuye Oyassin.

  1. Vivian, Kim Eric and family we are so sorry for your loss. We remember well all the trips back and forth to Wayne State and how welcome David and Vivian made us feel at their beautiful home in Wisconsin we will miss him but still smile when we see a squirrel as we picture his contraption. Much love and condolences Dan and Joan Kash

  2. I was not privileged to know David, but I have known and loved Vivian from book club. She is such a wonderful woman, I can only imagine the man that he was. Rest peacefully dear man.
