Cassandra Nickerson Blattner

Cassandra “Sandy” Clark Nickerson Blattner, whose life was marked by curiosity, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for the arts and the natural world, died on March 30, 2026 in Louisville, Colorado.

Born in Boston, Sandy was the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Underwood) Nickerson and the sister of Ann Burbank Nickerson, all of whom predeceased her.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, David Jones Blattner Jr.; her children, Sara Page of Eagle, Colorado; Christina “Chris” Page and her wife Jen Mayer of Seattle, Washington; David Blattner III and his wife Amy of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts; and Katherine “Katie” Szymczak and her husband Steve of Oak Lawn, Illinois; and her former son-in-law, Evan Roth and his wife Katherine of Savannah, Georgia.

Sandy was raised in Duxbury, Massachusetts, where she attended Duxbury High School and Dana Hall School in Wellesley. She graduated from Skidmore College with a degree in American Studies, an early reflection of the intellectual curiosity that would shape her life.

She moved to Oxford, England after college with her first husband, Jim Page and they later returned to live in London with their daughters, Sara and Chris. Those years abroad instilled in Sandy a lasting love of travel and cultural discovery—values she carried into her family life.

In 1994, she married her longtime friend David “Dave” Blattner, Jr. For the next three decades, they shared a devoted partnership defined by a mutual love of culture, travel, food and family. Together they journeyed widely, their trips included the Caribbean island of Virgin Gorda, a traverse along the Silk Road, and a safari in East Africa.

Sandy spent many years in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where she was active and loyal supporter of the Tau Beta society and the arts. A devoted patron of music and theater, she held the Boston Symphony Orchestra in especially high regard. After Dave’s retirement from the Boston law firm Ropes & Gray, their children gifted them a celebratory weekend in New York City, complete with a Broadway performance. Sandy later remarked that it was “almost as good as the Huntington.”

She found enduring pleasure in the company of friends, books, plants, and cooking. Sandy was a devoted member of the Heckle Street Book Club and a passionate gardener. Plantings at her Wellesley and Scarborough, Maine homes reflected both an eye for beauty and a deep attentiveness to the rhythms of the seasons. She also delighted in entertaining- a loyal subscriber to Gourmet Magazine, Sandy loved collecting and sharing recipes and creating gatherings that became lasting family memories.

In 2016, Sandy and Dave moved to Colorado, dividing their time between Denver and Scarborough. A lifelong lover of the sea, Sandy found particular peace along the Maine coast—walking Scarborough Beach, listening to the surf, and watching the sun set from her porch.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren—Jackson, Gareth, and Anders Page-Roth; William and Thaddeus “TJ” Mayer-Page; Bradford and Jonathan Blattner; and Jennifer (Szymczak) Riha and Steve Szymczak; and two great-grandchildren, Sage and Chase Szymczak.
