Alan Henderson, whose full name was James Alan Henderson, passed away on November 2, 2022 at the age of 82. He was born on June 24, 1940 to Lois Beebe and James Lewis Henderson in Jackson, Mississippi.
Alan’s legacy continues through his children Douglas Henderson, Nola Carr, and Devorah Hildie Henderson, his step-son Justin Griep; and his grandchildren Jay and Jonathan Carr, Forrest, Atraea, Imagen and Sena Henderson, and step-grandchildren Evan and Katrina Griep, and his great-grandchild Jasper Henderson. His great concern was with this next generation of grandkids and great grandkids, all of whom he loved and thought of much.
Alan took his own unique path through life. He obtained a Bachelors degree from University of Colorado at Boulder, and a Masters in Business from Tulane University. He explored many career-fields, working as a Professor in business at Tulane University, a computer programmer, a salesman at IBM, running his father’s business and later starting his own technology company, before settling into construction in his later years, where he enjoyed creating something valuable and well-made with the work of his hands. Throughout his life, he had a deep love for learning and exploring new things, which he passed on to his children.
Alan had a great singing voice, loved music, and even performed in some operas in College. He was singing to the end, as song lyrics were some of the main things found in his place after passing. He also had a good sense of humor and playfulness and made up many silly stories for his kids when they were young.
In addition to Alan’s deeply curious and intellectual side, he was an avid mountaineer and loved nature. He led many adventures through the Colorado Mountain Club and enjoyed hunting elk with his son Doug. He also loved soccer, and enjoyed soccer refereeing and helping his grandkids learn to play.
His funeral will be held November 10, 2022 at the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons Colorado. And a Memorial will follow at a later date.
